About AbilityNet
AbilityNet is a registered national charity (charity no. 1067673).with over 20 years experience helping people adapt and adjust their information and communications technology (ICT). We’re unique in what we do, working across the UK and beyond.
Our special expertise is ensuring that whatever your age, health condition, disability or situation you find exactly the right way to adapt or adjust your ICT to make it easier to use.
There are a confusing number of adaptations that change frequently, and a huge range of prices. We’ll always point out the low cost and free solutions first and let you try various solutions, so you avoid making costly mistakes
"I cannot imagine life without my computer – it's a good friend and has made an enormous difference to my quality of life."
As a charity our advice is totally impartial and because we work with such a variety of people and across the whole spectrum of problems and disabilities we know from practical experience what works and what doesn’t.
Employers, schools, colleges and other organisations can then tap into our huge bank of knowledge for whatever they need: staff training, advice and information, help with selecting equipment, web accessibility services or direct 1:1 assessment of need.
"The professional quality of their work is always impressive. It is reassuring to know that their advice is impartial. Not only are they independent, they are also up-to-date with the technologies as they become available - a major bonus in such a fast changing environment."
The strength of AbilityNet lies in the enormous experience of our staff, and our deep understanding of the technology. As technology changes at such a pace, one of our important roles is to keep pressing for improvements so that disabled people can always stay in touch and use the latest developments.
AbilityNet’s links with Microsoft, IBM, Hewlett Packard, BT and other major IT companies put us in a very strong position to make sure the voices of disabled people are heard. We aim to lead the way in providing effective interventions using the latest technology.
AbilityNet’s funding comes from a mix of grants and donations from charitable trusts, companies and the public, and fees charged for our professional services. This income supports our free services: information and advice available to all together with practical help for individuals in greatest need.
