Assistive technology
AbilityNet uses the term Assistive Technology (AT) for any item of software or hardware that has been specially designed to help improve access to a computer. AT is used by anyone with a health condition or disability that makes ‘standard use’ difficult or uncomfortable. It’s also often used by people simply because it makes using a computer easier or more comfortable.
We have included in this section some examples of equipment that is commonly used for physical, sensory and reading and writing problems.
Everyone is different and a picture is no substitute to actually trying equipment and taking advice from a trained professional. We always suggest you talk to someone knowledgeable before you buy. The solution you need may already be on your computer if you just knew how to adjust it!
If you feel ready to buy your equipment contact our Technical Centre, who can build your system including installing any specialist software packages.
