What we do in Education
AbilityNet's education services help students achieve more. Using assistive technologies (AT) improves opportunities and independence for students with SEN, leading to real inclusion.
We offer a range of services including assessments, equipment supply and training, consultancy and accessible IT kits.
We run Parent Information Days and have developed the “Local CAPacity” programme to provide support for Local Authority teams and are now offering free support packages for AAC / AT services supporting children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
"AbilityNet has collaborated with Becta for the past three years. Their staff’s support has been exemplary and together we have supported over 5,000 individual pupils."
" Without their highly professional advice and encouragement, the benefits being realised through CAP would not have been possible" Chris Stevens, Head of Inclusion, Becta
Local Authority support and development
Working with Becta on the Communications Aid Project for four years has given us a good understanding of how we can best support local authorities and Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to develop and maintain their multi-agency assistive technology teams. We’re now working with numerous local authorities who have signed up to our Local CAPacity programme.
Services available include:
- extensive loan bank of AT equipment
- training programme
- advice and support ‘on tap’
- consultant days to call off to meet your exact support requirements
Computers for Pupils and Building Schools for the Future
We can also support local authority teams delivering the Computers for Pupils initiative or the Building Schools for the Future rollout, ensuring your programme is tailored to offer inclusive access to ICT and compliance with DDA legislation.
Support a wide range of special education needs
It often makes sense to keep a range of access technology to hand, to support students quickly and with minimum disruption. AbilityNet have developed a range of Accessibility Kits specially for schools, combining tried and tested hardware and software with training and support for staff.
We offer a range of services including assessments, equipment supply and training, consultancy and accessible IT kits both to the statutory and Further and Higher education sector.
