Website build and design
Every professional organisation wants a website that looks great, is fully accessible and easy to manage and maintain.
Whether you want to improve your existing website or start afresh AbilityNet can help.
"A priority for the Karten Network was to make sure that our website was informative and readily accessible to the clients we aim to support. AbilityNet immediately recognised and appreciated our priority and developed a website which was judged as excellent when scrutinised by an independent audit team."
Peter Clay, Development Manager, Karten network
Design only
AbilityNet can design bespoke templates for new sites or help you perfect your existing site with custom design solutions. We use our knowledge of both usability and accessibility to create designs that look great, easily translate into accessible mark-up and are highly usable.
In creating an accessible website, interface design can be just as important as using the correct code. For example, the layout of an application form or how a complex search works. We can help with these issues to ensure all users can easily interact with your information.
Our fully accessible interface designs can meet a range of requirements.
AbilityNet recognise the importance of reaching your target audience. It is vital for users to enter a website and achieve their goals quickly. We understand that designs must work for different media and we design to meet this need.
We strongly believe that visual design, usability, functionality and accessibility are the main elements for a successful website. Our design will not sacrifice these important elements.
An AbilityNet design considers the needs of all possible disability groups from start to finish. Our experience means that every design includes a large number of features not covered by any published accessibility standard - for example, we ensure page elements are separated with sufficient white space and avoid full justification of text to assist those with dyslexia, and ensure that images do not pixelate when viewed using magnification software.
Accessible website builds
Alternatively, AbilityNet can build your entire site for you – based on one of our templates, or designed to a specific brief.
By looking after everything from brief to launch and beyond we can ensure it all runs smoothly and your website is fit for purpose.
We recently built a website that meets the highest accessibility standards (WCAG AAA) for Disability in Camden.
Another AAA website is www.karten-network.org.uk – which we designed and built for the Karten Network.
AbilityNet build a range of sites that can include:
- compliance with the highest level WCAG standards (AAA) and/or Section 508
- static or database driven (PHP or ASP) content
- search and feedback forms, forums/message boards
- Flash movies
- a range of one-click ‘themes’ – enabling your site to change appearance at the click of a button to assist visitors with a range of conditions such as vision impairment or dyslexia
- a simple to use content management system (CMS).
We test all of our sites across a range of browsers, and believe that disabled user testing is an integral part of the development process.
Site maintenance
We are also able to maintain and update your website for you – ensuring on-going accessibility.
"Just wanted to say that the arrangement for site maintenance has proved very satisfactory and simple to date. Leona has been easy to contact and quick to implement changes."
Angela Hobbs, Administrator, Karten network
